The case of an American accused of killing his pregnant wife has taken a new turn, after an Italian court issued a ruling allowing his partial extradition to the United States, following months of his fleeing to Milan in an attempt to avoid trial.
The case dates back to 2024, when the accused informed authorities that his pregnant wife had died from a drug overdose. However, the results of the medical examination revealed conflicting information, showing that the death was caused by pressure on the neck, prompting authorities to classify the incident as a murder and open an extensive criminal investigation.
After being arrested and then released on bail while subjected to electronic monitoring, the accused managed to flee to Italy before being apprehended by authorities there. During the extradition hearing, the Italian court agreed to return him on lesser charges, after receiving guarantees that the death penalty would not be applied in his case.
The case remains open to new developments, as both parties have the right to appeal the decision within the legal timeframe; this means that the final resolution regarding his return to the United States has not yet been determined.
